CHESAW HIGHLANDS POST 69 NEWSLETTER October 2006 |
Watch us Grow, Prosper and Succeed!!!
From the Commander, Jack Baskin:
This is to notify all members of the Chesaw Highlands Post 69 that there will be a SPECIAL ELECTION to elect/reelect Officers for Post 69. Nominations will be made at the October 7, 2006 meeting and elections held at the October 21, 2006 meeting. Your attendance and participation at these meetings will be wholeheartedly appreciated.
These elections are necessary because of actions taken at the September 9, 2006 DEC meeting where the “State Executive Committee found the post out of compliance with Article VI, Section 1 (a) of the National and State Constitutions and by-laws. Additionally, the Charter of Post 69 was placed in suspension in accordance with Appendix E, Section 1 of the National Constitution and By-laws as of June 10, 2006. Because of non-compliance any AMVETS business conducted subsequent to June 10, 2006 has no merit and is considered null and Void.”
We were not notified of any pending action prior to the DEC meeting; therefore, we are appealing this decision to the National level. We expect that the suspension will be overturned.
Nevertheless, we will proceed in accordance with the suspension and hold nominations and elections for Commander, 1st Vice Commander, 2nd Vice Commander, Adjutant, Finance Officer, Judge Advocate and Provost Marshal.
Now, for the lighter side of life…
The dance the Auxiliary held on September 16th was a success. Over a thousand dollars was raised for the building fund. We now have enough funds to build the picnic shelter, which will give us a place to meet this winter. We plan to enclose the shelter and have a stove lined up to provide the heat, all we are waiting on now is the building permit and we will get started. We hope to have it done before snow falls.
As members who drive by the property can see, Bob Tollefson has started digging on his property. He has told us that when he gets through with this project he will put in a road to the lower level of our property for us. He also says he is looking forward to us getting our clubhouse up and operating. Thanks Bob!
I wish to thank all of you who have supported the Post throughout the turmoil and can assure you that we will come out a much better and stronger Post for it. I cannot say it enough, we have a group now, which is fantastic, and the positive feelings abound. I also cannot say enough about the support the community is giving us, it is truly overwhelming.
I have not had a chance to talk with Mary LaShelle since starting this newsletter, but the news with the Auxiliary is they have new officers and have been sworn-in. They just have to have a special meeting to revalidate and the ladies will be good to go.
Things are looking up for Post 69 and as I keep saying… Watch us grow, prosper and succeed!!
The next meeting will be on October 7, 2006 on our property at 2360 Chesaw Road, starting at 1200 hours. The following meeting will be for the election of Officers on October 21, 2006. Please try to attend both meetings if you can.
Actions at the previous meeting (September 2, 2006) were as follows:
